About Student Loans
NOBTS does not offer a loan program through our institution, but we do work with independent financial institutions that offer educational loans. Important: NOBTS does not accept any Federal loans including Stafford loans and Pell grants. You may apply with the bank that you currently use or any other loan lender as long as you are applying for an educational or Signature loan. The recent changes in the economy and specifically in the loan industry have led to many lenders our students have used in the past such as Wachovia, Citibank, and Bank of America to discontinue their educational loans offered to NOBTS students. We are currently working with Sallie Mae and College Loan Corporation, which have Signature loans available to NOBTS/Leavell College students. Sallie Mae Signature Student Loan We are now able to process signature student loans to cover educational expenses through Sallie Mae. Below is a link to their website and step-by-step instructions on how to apply. 1. Go to https://opennet.salliemae.com/apploansummary/?school_id=00201900 2. Choose the right hand column and register as a first time user. 3. After accepting the Terms and Conditions, enter your profile information to create an account. 4. Select the Start a Loan link. 5. Select the Start a Private Loan link. The website will take you step-by-step through the rest of the application process. You will also be able to sign your application using the e-signature feature. If you have any questions, you can contact the Financial Aid Office (504.282.4455 ext. 3348), the Sallie Mae main number (888.272.5543) or the Sallie Mae Signature Loan number (800.695.3317). College Loan Corporation Premier Student Loan We are also able to accept a CLC Premier Loan from College Loan Corporation. Below is a link to their website and step-by-step instructions on how to apply. 1. Go to www.collegeloan.com 2. On the left side, under Loan Products, click on Private Loans, then click on CLC Premier Loan. 3. Read through the loan information and eligibility requirements. (It can only be taken out one semester at a time) You can apply online from that page or contact a CLC Loan Consultant by phone if you have any questions. We have worked with consultant Maddy Le who can be reached at 1.888.972.6311 ext. 2278. Loan Process
The Director must certify that the loan is for educational purposes only. Educational purposes may include: tuition, fees, books, and some living or commuting expenses. Loan payments can be deferred as long as you are a full-time student, but the interest on the loans start accruing immediately. For this reason, the Director advises each student to take out the lowest amount possible for either a semester or a year at the most rather than a large amount to cover your entire time at NOBTS.
