How Much Do Online Courses Cost?

Tuition Cost for 2008-2009: The tuition for Internet courses is $170 per credit hour for graduate-level courses and $175 per credit hour for undergraduate-level courses plus an Internet course fee of $75 per credit hour.

Course Credit Hour Designation: The second number in the course designation represents the number of credit hours. Example: DISC5301 is a course offered for 3 hours of academic credit. (The credit hour designation for the graduate Greek course does not fit this rule).

Withdrawal Refund: For Internet courses, students may receive a refund of course tuition, less $50 prior to receiving access to course content.

When/How Do I Register for Online Courses?

  • The registration deadline for Spring 2009 Internet courses is January 16, 2009.

  • There is no late registration for Internet courses.

Students who have not taken courses at NOBTS previously should fill out the Registration Form found at the link below and mail or fax it to the Registrar's Office. Current students can register online through IQ Web during the registration period.

Registrar's Office
New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary
3939 Gentilly Blvd.
New Orleans, LA 70126

Fax: (504) 816-8453

Are the Online Courses Accredited?

Yes, all courses at NOBTS are accredited. For more information, see accreditation.

Do I Have to Be Enrolled at NOBTS?

No, you may take the courses on a non-credit basis for your own personal development, or for academic credit as a non-degree student. Students enrolling in Internet courses are not guaranteed admission to the Seminary as degree seeking students. In order to enroll as a degree seeking student at NOBTS, the student must complete all requirements for regular admission into the Seminary, including an approved full application. See Registrar's Office for details.

Who Can Enroll for Online Courses?

The courses are designed for anyone who is interested in increasing their knowledge of Christian theology, the Bible, and Christian ministry. The classes are tailored to prepare people for Christian leadership, either in full time vocational ministry or in lay ministry.

These courses are designed primarily for off-campus students who do not have easy access to the New Orleans campus. On-campus students may take the Internet courses in the regular fall and spring semesters only if they meet one of the following two criteria:

  • The student is a full-time student, taking a minimum of 9 hours (not including Internet courses or Independent Directed Study courses). The tuition for the Internet courses is in addition to the tuition cap. Students may not take over a total of 18 hours in one semester without the written permission of their academic Dean.
  • In cases in which students need a particular course for graduation, the students may enroll for an Internet course only with the approval of their academic Dean.

Students may enroll in these courses in one of the following three ways:

  • For academic credit toward a baccalaureate or graduate degree in which you are enrolled at NOBTS.
  • For academic credit as a non-degree student at NOBTS.
  • For non-academic credit, such as for continuing education.

Courses not taken for academic credit can never be applied for credit at the Seminary. Students desiring to enter an NOBTS degree program will need to meet all the normal requirements for admission to the Seminary.

Why Offer Seminary Courses Online?

Our hope is to make quality Seminary training accessible to ministers and lay Christian leaders all over the world, regardless of their location. Our commitment is to provide theological education via the Internet that is comparable in quality to our on-campus classes.

Are the Courses Transferable to Other Institutions?

Yes (as long as it fits into their degree program and other requirements). To be sure, please check (before you enroll for the Internet class) with the institution to which you want to transfer the credit.

Do I Have to Take Courses for Academic Credit?

No, you may choose to take them for your own continuing education.

Must I Enroll in a Degree Program at NOBTS?

No, you may choose to take the course on a non-credit basis for continuing education, or you may choose to take the course for academic credit without enrolling in the Seminary.

"If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor my name," says the LORD Almighty, "I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honor me."

Malachi 2:2 (NIV)
