Resume Helps

Creating a ministry resume can be a challenging endeavor, but not impossible. The CMR staff would like to provide you with some help as you put a resume together.

Some Things to Think About:

  • The resume is a reflection of you, your character and your ministry.
  • The resume is the first impression most churches will have of you.
  • The resume does not need to tell everything about you.
  • The purpose of a resume is to communicate enough of who you are, your desire or experience in ministry to develop an interest in a search committee to talk with you further.
  • A good way to decide how to format a resume (how it will look) is to look at some resumes of peers. Ask your fellow ministers to share theirs with you.
  • The resume is a tool that God uses to connect His people. Ultimately, He is the One in control of it.

Resume Basics for Ministry Connections

  • Resumes need to be in Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format. Our on-line resume referral system does not accept any other format. The system will convert your resume to a PDF format so that it cannot be edited or changed by others.
  • The resume needs to 'fit' or 'match' the position desired.
  • Uncommon or fancy fonts, and heavy graphics are discouraged.
  • Remember, search committees will be printing off your resume, and making copies of it.

Sample Resume Guidelines

The CMR Office can provide suggested guidelines to use when developing a resume. These guidelines are given in a sample format demonstrating some of the content material you might include in your resume. As well, more detailed instructions for developing a resume for Ministry Connections are included. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
