About Korean Program in New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary

Even though the seminary experienced Katrina, NOBTS has started a powerful new way for pastoral training for Korean ministers in North Georgia Hub. Because all of the classes are taught in Korean language, perspective students do not need a TOEFL grade for admission. After they improve their English communication skills and have scored an acceptable TOEFL grade, they can apply to join the English speaking classes. NOBTS is one of the largest accredited seminaries in the world. NOBTS is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of SACS (the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) to award baccalaureate degree. All graduate theological degrees at NOBTS are accredited by ATS (the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada). Because of support from the Southern Baptist Convention, NOBTS tuition is less expensive than many other seminaries.
Currently NOBTS is offering Korean classes for undergraduate and graduate degrees (M.Div.). These are official courses for Undergraduate and Graduate in the United States. After they finish their graduate course, the students can apply for (TOEFL required) the next levels (Th.M., Ph.D., or D.Min.) in English. Because all faculty members have doctoral degrees or have finished their course work in doctoral level with spiritual and learning excellency, the Korean classes have a very high quality. That is a strong point of Korean classes. This is a good news for Korean people who were called early from God for their ministry but did not have an opportunity to be trained (or hesitated to be trained) because of the language barrier. Current Korean students in Korean program at NGA of NOBTS have adjusted to a new culture. Some of them can speak several languages like their mother tongue. All of them love lost souls passionately. They are mission minded. When they finish their training in NOBTS, we can send them throughout the world as missionaries. | 뉴올리언즈 침례신학대학 한국부뉴올리언즈 침례신학대학은 카트리나의 큰 재앙에도 불구하고 아틀란타의 North Georgia Extension Center에 한국부를 신설하여 한국인 목회자 양성을 위한 힘찬 발걸음을 시작했다. 한국부에서는 모든 수업을 한국어로 진행하기 때문에 토풀점수 없이 입학이 가능며, 영어가 향상되어 토풀 점수를 제출하면 영어부로 갈 수 있는 길도 열어놓았다. 뉴올리언즈 침례신학대학은 공식인가된 신학교중 세계에서 가장 큰 신학교 중의 하나로, 모든 과정이 SACS (The Southern Association of College and Schools)와 ATS (The Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada)에 의해 공식 인준된 학교로 미 남침례교단의 지원이 있기에 미국내 수 많은 다른 학교들보다 학비가 더 저렴한 것이 특징이다. 현재 뉴올리언즈 침례신학대학에서 학부과정과 신대원 과정 (M.Div.)이 한국어로 제공되고 있으며, 이는 미국내 정식 대학과 대학원 과정으로 한국부의 대학원을 마치고 영어로 공부하는 다음 과정(Th.M., Ph.D., or D.Min.) 진학을 할때에 영어부에서 공부한 것과 똑 같이 인정받게 된다. 교수진 전원이 박사학위가 있거나 박사 과정을 마친 현직 사역자들로 영성과 지성을 겸비한 교수진이 마련되어 있어 질적인 면에서 수준 높은 수업이 이루어지고 있다는 강점을 가지고 있다. 그동안 미국에 살면서 부름받아 주의 일을 하고 싶지만 훈련받을 기회를 놓친 분들이나 영어의 장벽 때문에 주의 사역자로 준비될 기회를 찾지 못해 망설이고 있던 분들에게 더 없이 좋은 희소식이다. 현재 아틀란타 캠퍼스의 한국부에 등록하여 공부하고 있는 학생들은 전원 여러 문화권에 적응해온 경험이 있고 몇 개국어를 모국어 처럼 말하며, 영혼을 뜨겁게 사랑할 뿐만 아니라, 사명감에 불타고 있어서 이들이 신학수업을 마친다면 그대로 전 세계로 선교사로 파송해도 손색이 없는 자질을 갖추고 있다고 한다. 앞으로 뉴올리언즈 침례신학대학의 한국부가 미주 한인 침례교 목회자 양성의 요람으로 성장하길 기대한다. 자세한 문의는 뉴올리언즈 침례신학대학 한국부 디렉터인 이덕재 목사에게 할 수 있으며 연락처는 다음과 같다.
