Bo Hamilton sensed that God was working in the life of one of his students all throughout the summer. In the last weeks of August, Bo led Silas to Christ through his preaching ministry and a recent home visit.
Bo said, “In all honesty, it was one of the best conversations I have had. One thing, if I had to rate it, is just being obedient to the Holy Spirit's leading. Silas has been on my heart all summer. Going to someone’s house is incredibly out of my comfort zone. I don't mind if they are at my house but being on their turf having a conversation which may or may not be received well makes me incredibly uncomfortable. But Thursday I couldn't steer away from it. It was as if I had to do it for my own peace of mind.”
The Puritan preacher Richard Baxter was known for his home visits and sermon follow-up. While Brent, Alabama is a long way from Shropshire, England, Bo found merit in Baxter’s methodology.
“Silas had brought a sermon I preached a couple weeks ago that had made him think about his own life and his relationship with God. He asked me if I really had that kind of close connection to God, (to) which I replied yes. I then asked him if I could share my own personal testimony; he agreed. After sharing that, I was able to transition into God's plan for redeeming and recovering us for his purpose.”
Bo used the 3 Circles method of sharing the Gospel during their conversation in addition to discussing the sermon and sharing his own testimony. The result? New life in Christ and a baptism to give public testimony. “I can't think of anything to do differently. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Silas said the most amazing prayer to God. Silas is going to be baptized Labor Day weekend.”

The Caskey Center for Church Excellence seeks to honor the ministry of Rev. Steve Caskey by emphasizing the importance of faithfulness in ministry in all ministry contexts and settings. We do that by providing resources to church ministers. These resources include a scholarship program to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, a conference for ministers, and through church and ministry resources.
