Book Review Submission Guidelines
Mission and Audience: The mission of JBTM is to develop, preserve, and communicate the distinctive theological identity of Baptists. It exists to provide theological and ministerial resources to enrich and energize ministry in Baptist churches, to bring together professor and practitioner to produce and apply these resources to Baptist life, polity, and ministry. JBTM will typically only assign reviews for books less than 5 years after publication.
Qualification of Reviewers: Book reviews will be considered for publication by those who hold a doctoral degree, or are currently a research student, in a field related to the book they reviewed. Unsolicited reviews may be accepted but are subject to requested editing to fit the expected purpose, form, and style. JBTM will not assign more than one review (or supply a review copy) at a time. Typically, JBTM will not publish more than one review per contributor each issue.
Purpose: Book reviews should include brief pertinent biographical information about the author(s) or editor(s), a statement of the work’s purpose, a summary and evaluation of the content, pertinent connections to major works in the field, and an evaluation of the value of the book for readers in JBTM’s audience. Reviews should not be merely summary or state of literature.
Form and Style: Book reviews should reflect a scholarly touch, yet respond to practical issues of ministry. The book review must be double-spaced, using parenthetical page ranges for citations of the reviewed book and complete Turabian-style footnotes for citations of outside sources. All text, including footnotes, should be 12-point Times New Roman font. Consult standards for the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society for abbreviations, etc. Transliterate biblical words in italics. At the top of the review, please list the bibliographic material in this order:
Title. Author. City: Publisher, Year. Pages + front matter (if applicable). Format, Retail Price.
