Dr. Kristyn Carver

Kristyn Carver, PhD, LPC-S

Professor of Counseling

Kristyn S. Carver is Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, occupying the James D. and Rose Ramsey Chair of Counseling.  She has been teaching at NOBTS since 2000. Dr. Carver is a Licensed Professional Counselor and an approved supervisor (LPC-S). In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Carver helps provide mental health services in rural southern Louisiana through New Life Counseling Center where she serves as the director of this faith-based, non-profit counseling center.  She also operates her own private counseling practice in Metairie, serving individuals, couples, and families. J. Craig Garrett, PhD, LPC-S, NCC

Professor of Counseling, Divisional Associate Dean

Craig Garrett is Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, occupying the Baptist Community Ministries Chair of Pastoral Care and Counseling.  Dr. Garrett is a Licensed Professional Counselor and approved supervisor (LPC-S) in Louisiana, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas, a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors, and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA), American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS). He is also an ordained minister and has served as a chaplain in healthcare and hospice settings. He holds the MEd in Counseling and Development, the Master of Theology (ThM), and the PhD in Psychology and Counseling.   Faculty Page     

Dr. Jeff Nave

Jeffrey W. Nave, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT-S, NCC

Professor of Counseling

Jeff Nave is Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Director of Student Counseling, occupying the James H. and Susan E. Brown Chair in Christian Counseling. Dr. Nave is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), an LPC and LMFT Approved Supervisor, and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the National Board of Certified Counselors. He is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC).  He also serves as an Associate Pastor at Northshore Church in Slidell, LA, Chaplain with the Slidell Police Department, and works with law enforcement personnel as Critical Incident Response Specialist. He holds an MDiv in Psychology and Counseling, and the PhD in Psychology and Counseling.   Faculty page

Ian F. Jones, PhD, PhD, LPC-S, LMFT, BCPCC

Professor of Counseling, Ministry-Based

Ian Jones is Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He taught previously at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in Fort Worth, Texas, where he was Professor of Psychology and Counseling, Associate Dean for the Division of Psychology and Counseling, and Director of the Baptist Marriage and Family Counseling Center, and at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, where he was Professor of Sociology and Dean of the School of Social Sciences. He is co-director of the Biblical Counseling and Spiritual Formation Network in the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA). He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and an LPC and LMFT Approved Supervisor in Texas, a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor, and a clinical fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Kelle Falterman, PhD, LPC-S (LA), LPC (MS), NCC, NCSC, CTTS

Core Faculty in Counseling

Kelle Falterman is a licensed professional counselor and board-approved supervisor. She graduated with her master's degree in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans, and she also has a master's degree in Christian Ministry from Southern California Seminary. She  earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of the Cumberlands. Dr.  Falterman  is active in leadership of the Louisiana Counseling Association. She was born and raised in the suburbs of New Orleans. Kelle has been married to her husband for 23 years, and she is the proud mother of two teenage sons.

Alex Wendel, PhD, LPC

Assistant Professor of Counseling

Alex R. Wendel is Assistant Professor of Counseling and the Director of Clinical Training at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Wendel is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Louisiana and has clinical experience working in private practice, hospital settings, and does group therapy for individuals coming out of human trafficking situations. Dr. Wendel is involved with the Christian Association for Psychological Studies and their Association of Counselors, Counselor Educators, Supervisors, and Students (ACCESS). His research and writing interests are the intersection and integration of counseling theory and Christian theology.
