“Prepare here, serve anywhere” is not just a motto for New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Leavell College. It’s a way of life. It’s a legacy that has been cultivated for more than a century. It’s an expectation—not only for our students, but also for our faculty and staff.
It’s a calling that Dr. Kristyn Carver takes seriously. That’s why, in addition to her work as a professor of counseling at NOBTS and Leavell College, she ministers across Louisiana as an advocate for foster and adoptive families.
“I have specialty training in working with kids with trauma,” Dr. Carver explains. “So, I get to work with the state in training foster families and case workers. I’ve also done a lot of work with judges and lawyers on trauma-informed courts and helping design sensory-friendly waiting rooms for kids in courthouses.”
Dr. Carver also serves with a non-profit that works directly with foster and adoptive families from a faith-based perspective. This allows her to interact with professionals across a broad spectrum, guiding them as they nurture these special relationships.
“Sometimes, I just want to pinch myself because I can’t believe God is letting me do this for my life,” she shared. “And I love that the seminary supports this work. I have always been encouraged and supported by the seminary to embrace my passions and to bring students along with me so they can learn.”
Of course, Kristyn Carver is not the only member of the NOBTS family who ministers outside the seminary walls. Dozens of our faculty and staff members use their gifts and talents in local churches and organizations. Many also travel overseas on mission trips. They strive to set the example for students, all while making a difference for the kingdom of God.
That’s what makes your ongoing support through the Providence Fund is so important. Your giving certainly supports our students in a special way, but it also provides encouragement for our faculty as they teach and mentor those students. Your generous investment as a friend of NOBTS and Leavell College empowers them help others. And through them, you are making a difference in the world.
“When a person makes a donation to the seminary, those efforts are multiplied because students spend a lifetime using the education those gifts provide,” said Dr. Carver, a graduate who experienced the blessing of financial gifts as a student and now actively gives to the seminary. “Every person they reach with the gospel then shares and reaches more people with the gospel. So, if you’re thinking from a very practical, return-on-your-investment stance, this is a phenomenal way to get a great return.”
